A pharmaceutical facility in the US is planning an expansion project at one of its facilities. The new expansion will house pill manufacturing rooms, which will require “clean rooms”. The clean rooms will not be very big but need to house at least three dust collection units. After reading an article about another facility utilizing Aerodyne pharmaceutical dust collectors in clean rooms, the project manager reached out to Aerodyne’s Dan Navicky for assistance.

Because pharmaceutical companies are regulated by the FDA, every gram of product must be accounted for, even the dust. The pill dust that is created is extremely fine and flows like water. Since this particular project was limited on space, Dan suggested they use the GPC dust collector (Ground Plate Collector) to collect the fine pill dust. The GPC dust collector is a compact high efficiency cyclone dust collector. It has several distinct advantages over common high-efficiency cyclone dust collectors. The spiral inlet of the GPC directs the dirty gas stream toward the ground plate and hopper of the collector. Coupled with the compact size of the collectors, this gives the GPC the ability to be installed horizontally with virtually no effect on the collection efficiency.

After installing the 3 GPCs in the clean room the project manager was impressed with the efficient use of space the GPCs had made and its ability to handle the pill dust, it was decided the company would purchase 3 more for a different application process with in the expanded facility.
